They have a different appearance from other tribes with excellent high cheekbones, a slender build and light skin. They were not a warrior tribe, but live as hunter-gatherers and hunt by means of bows with a poisonous arrow. The Hadzabe were the first known human inhabitants of the area. You will go hunting with the Hadzabe in the early morning. When you visit these tribes you will experience their way of life. The still primitive Hadzabe and Datoga tribes depend on hunting and gathering or pastoralism for their livelihood. During a cultural tour in Mto wa Mbu you will visit the Maasai and other interesting places. The houses are made of wood and mud and are built in a circle to protect the livestock from predators. They have large herds of livestock, such as goats and cows. The Maasai are known for their characteristic red shuka (shawl). In addition, numerous wachagga and wameru have moved to this area due to tourism. ![]() Other tribes in the both are the Datoga and Wabulu. Considering they are and were the strong warrior tribe, there were many battles in the area and today they speak of previous enemies in a different way, such as the Datoga they call Mang’ati, which means ‘respected enemy’. The Maasai moved to this area over 200 years ago, probably in search of pasturage for their livestock. ![]() One of the main tribes in this village is the Maasai.
